Jackson was born late Monday night at his home. He was taken quickly to Fayette-Piedmont Hospital, where he passed away shortly after his birth. The hospital staff found me through the Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep organization, asked the family about having some images made, and called about 2:20am this morning. I spent just a very few minutes with the family, and really didn’t want to intrude on this difficult time by using flash or turning the room lights on.
It’s hard to look at someone and convey the deep sympathy you feel for them. I can’t imagine what it must be like to lose a child. Here are some images from tonight.

So you may notice a new look to the logo. For a long time it was

and that was OK. As I changed as an artist though, it didn’t change with me. It looked very classic, traditional, and really, kind of old fashioned. OK, very old fashioned. Also, people really didn’t get from this that I am a photographer. I got inquiries about videography, painting, and a variety of other things. So in 2007 I was thinking about an updated look, and came across a design I did in 2004. Not bad, I thought. I ran it by peers, and clients, got positive feedback so I went with it. It looked like this

OK, now we’re good. A modern design, but people still didn’t get that I am a photographer. I also in that time period had the bright idea to dump my business landline, transfer my business number to my cell, and go to a cell phone for all my calls. Great idea right? Well, it was, except that the cell doesn’t work so well in my office. So I had to get another landline. That meant another number, too. So here, to clear up exactly what it is that I do, and get the new number out there is the newest design.

Feedback is always welcome!
A couple of Sunday’s ago I got to be a part of a reunion of 4 families. Leslee had contacted me after finding the Operation Love Reunited website. I met her about 8am at the arrival escalators at Hartsfield. It takes about an hour for soldiers to clear customs after hitting the ground in Atlanta, and her husbands plane hadn’t even landed yet. The USO greets each soldier that arrives with a round of deserved applause, and maintains a hospitality suite where the families can wait for arrivals, or where soldiers can get some rest waiting on a connection. They also have cookies, danishes, and coffee. So we went to the USO room to hang out for a few minutes. We met two other wives waiting on husbands, and one couple waiting on their son to return. Here’s a mini-tour of the USO suite…

Someone asked me the other day “How do you have time to do this?”. Well, you make time. These folks have sacrificed so much more than just a little time out of an occasional day that I feel like it’s the least I can do. I’ll be happy to do as many of these as I can. If you are a photographer that would like to get involved and give something to these that have given to you, then contact the Op-Love folks.
I’ll post some of the reunion images in a bit.
